Alberto Giacometti (1901 – 1966) and Francis Bacon (1909 – 1992) had a decisive influence on the art of the twentieth century. This exhibition brings the two artists together for the first time. Different as their art may initially appear, the joint presentation of their work reveals many surprising similarities.

Nature and abstraction have long been a couple in art. This year’s second collection presentation shows how differently artists explore this twosome.

JUNE 9 – 17, 2018

The main Fondation Beyeler stand at this year’s Art Basel is devoted to Pablo Picasso, the emblematic artist of the twentieth century. The selection of works on show concentrates on Picasso’s multifaceted image of woman, with three major paintings and a large bronze sculpture of the artist’s lover and muse Dora Maar.

Plan visit

Ernst and Hildy Beyeler were passionately involved in the arts throughout their lives. They made all the paintings and sculptures of their world-famous art collection accessible to the public at the Fondation Beyeler in 1997. Today, the collection comprises 300 classic modern and contemporary works.

The Fondation Beyeler's main goal is to bring art and spectator together. Through our guided tours and workshops, we do not only share knowledge about artists, works and epochs, we create above all a space in which to deepen observations and exchange different views, perceptions, thoughts and feelings. Our goal is to let stories and therefore connections develop between the artwork and the viewer and it's especially important to the Fondation Beyeler that children and young people also be able to find their very own stories and connections.
