The Beyeler Museum AG (hereinafter Fondation Beyeler) operates a museum with an integrated museum shop and a restaurant. The protection of your personal data is very important to the Fondation Beyeler. The Fondation Beyeler uses personal data only in accordance with applicable Swiss and European data protection legislation. Below, we would like to inform you about the nature, purposes and scope of the collection and use of personal data in connection with the following activities:

Type of personal data

Personal data is information that can be associated with a specific person. We process various categories of such personal data. The most important categories of personal data are listed below, although other personal data may also be processed in individual cases:

  • Basic data is fundamental data such as salutation, name, contact details or date of birth;
  • Contract data is personal data arising in connection with the conclusion or execution of a contract, e.g. details of the conclusion of a contract, acquired rights and claims or information on the customer experience;
  • Communication data is contact details such as postal address, e-mail address and telephone number; content of e-mails, written correspondence, chat messages, social media posts, comments on a website, telephone calls, video conferences, etc. If you contact us or we contact you, e.g. if you contact the secretariat or if you write or call us, we process the content of the communication exchanged and details about the nature, time and place of the communication;
  • Technical data includes, among other things, the IP address of your device and other device IDs (e.g. MAC address); when you use our websites, our apps, our Wi-Fi networks or other electronic offers, we collect certain technical data;
  • Image and sound recordings include, for example, recordings from video surveillance systems,

photos, videos and sound recordings from customer events and public events (e.g. promotional events, sponsoring events or cultural events). We regularly produce photos, videos and sound recordings in which you may appear, e.g. if you take part in an event and we have obtained your consent.

You often provide us with such personal data yourself, e.g. when you transmit data to us or communicate with us. In particular, you usually provide us with basic, contract and communication data yourself. We may also collect personal data about you ourselves or automatically, e.g. when you shop in our webshop, use our offers or make use of our services.

Purpose of processing personal data

  • Communication: We would like to stay in touch with you and address your individual concerns. For this we use in particular communication and basic data and, insofar as the communication relates to a contract, also contract data.

Data collection when visiting our website

When you access our website, your internet browser transmits data to our web server for technical reasons. The following data is recorded during an ongoing connection for communication between your internet browser and our web server:

What is onsite targeting?

On the Fondation Beyeler website, data is collected on the basis of cookie technology in order to optimise our advertising and the overall online offering. This data is not used to identify you personally, but serves solely to provide a pseudonymous evaluation of the use of the homepage. Your data is never combined with the personal data stored by us. This technology allows us to present you with advertising and/or special offers and services whose content is based on information obtained in connection with clickstream analysis (for example, advertising geared towards the fact that in recent days you have exclusively viewed content on topics such as digital marketing or media relations). Are there also cookies from third-party providers (so-called third-party cookies)?

The Fondation Beyeler works with several advertising partners who help make the internet offering and our website more interesting for you. Therefore, cookies from partner companies are also stored on your hard drive when you visit the website. These are temporary/permanent cookies that delete themselves automatically after the specified time. These temporary or permanent cookies (lifetime 1 month to 10 years) are stored on your hard drive and delete themselves after the specified time has elapsed. Re-targeting

Our websites use so-called re-targeting technologies. We use these technologies to make the internet offering more interesting for you. This technique makes it possible to address internet users who have already shown interest in our website and the offers presented there with advertising on the websites of our partners. We are convinced that the display of personalised, interest-based advertising is generally more interesting for the internet user than advertising that has no such personal relevance. Usage analysis via Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA ("Google"). Google Analytics uses "cookies", i.e. text files that are stored on your computer and enable Google to analyse the use of our offering. The information generated by the cookie about your use of our website (including your IP address) is generally transmitted to and stored by Google on a server in the USA. Please note that on our websites, Google Analytics has been extended with the code "gat._anonymizeIp();;" to ensure anonymised collection of IP addresses (so-called IP masking). Your IP address is therefore only recorded by Google in shortened form at our request, which ensures anonymisation and does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about your identity. If IP anonymisation is activated on our websites, your IP address will be shortened by Google beforehand within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Facebook Pixel

We use the Facebook Pixel to show you, based on your activities on our website, advertisements tailored to your interests on Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and the Facebook Audience Network via re-targeting.

Google Remarketing Tag

We use the Google Remarketing Tag to show you, based on your activities on our website, advertisements tailored to your interests on Google AdWords, the Google Display Network and YouTube via re-targeting.

Social plugins

Our website uses social plugins ("plugins") from various social networks. With the help of these plugins, you can, for example, share content or recommend products. The plugins are activated by default on fondationbeyeler.ch. The content of the plugin is transmitted directly from the social network to your browser and integrated into the website by it. By integrating the plugins, the social network receives the information that you have accessed the corresponding page of our website. If you are logged in to the social network, it can associate your visit with your account. If you interact with the plugins, for example by clicking the Facebook "Like" button or leaving a comment, the corresponding information is transmitted directly from your browser to the social network and stored there. Cookie notice for the separate online ticket shop

Please note that our online ticket shop (https://tickets.fondationbeyeler.ch/#/tickets/time?group=timeSlot) is a technically and content-wise independent platform.

The online ticket shop uses exclusively technically necessary cookies required for the operation and functionality of the site (e.g. for session management or to complete payment transactions). Analysis or marketing cookies are not used there.

The personal data entered during the ticket purchase process is used exclusively for the contract execution described above.

Use of your data for advertising purposes

In addition to using your data to send our newsletter, we also use your data to display personalised advertising to you.

Individual advertising for you

Information we receive from you helps us to continuously improve your service experience and make it customer-friendly and individual for you. The information you transmit and the automatically generated information is used to design advertising tailored to you and your interests. For this purpose, we use available information such as delivery and read receipts of e-mails, information about the computer and connection to the internet, operating system and platform, your service history, date and time of visiting the homepage, articles, topics and content you have viewed. We use this information exclusively in pseudonymised form. By analysing and evaluating this information, we are able to improve our website and our internet offering, and to send you individual advertising as a result. This means advertising that recommends services that might actually interest you. Our aim is to make our advertising more useful and interesting for you. Analysing and evaluating the pseudonymised data collected from you helps us to avoid sending you random advertising. Instead, we send you advertising, such as newsletters or service recommendations, by e-mail or letter mail, that corresponds to your areas of interest. In this respect, for example, a comparison is also made of which of our promotional e-mails you open, in order to avoid sending you unnecessary e-mails.

Newsletter usage

In order to subscribe to one of our e-mail newsletters, in addition to your consent under data protection law, we need at least your e-mail address to which the newsletter is to be sent. Providing your name is optional.

For sending the newsletter, we use the so-called double opt-in procedure, i.e. you will only be bindingly registered for the newsletter dispatch once you have confirmed your registration via the link contained in a confirmation e-mail sent to you for this purpose.

Use of the online shop

In order to be able to process orders, the Fondation Beyeler Art Shop requires your name, e-mail address, address and, if applicable, a different delivery address. The information required for the order is used exclusively for the purchase. Payment transactions are processed using Saferpay security technology. Your credit card details are transmitted directly to Saferpay and are not stored by the Fondation Beyeler.

Secure data transmission

As transport encryption, we offer HTTPS with Perfect Forward Secrecy and the current TLS 1.2 encryption protocol for our website. We recommend keeping your internet browser up to date to ensure secure transmission of your data during transport.

Routine deletion and blocking of personal data

The Fondation Beyeler only processes and stores the personal data of data subjects for the period necessary to achieve the purpose of storage, or as provided for by legal regulations to which the responsible parties are subject. If the purpose of storage no longer applies or a statutory retention period expires, the personal data will be routinely blocked or deleted in accordance with legal requirements.

Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be adapted over time, in particular if we change our data processing practices or if new legal provisions become applicable. We actively inform persons whose contact details are registered with us of significant changes if this is possible without disproportionate effort. In general, the version of the privacy policy in effect at the start of the relevant processing applies to data processing activities.
