Carsten Höller (born 1961, Brussels) draws on his education as a scientist in his work as an artist, focusing in particular on the nature of human relationships. Doubt and uncertainty are recurring themes in his work, which often takes the form of investigative situations, participatory sculptures and evocative environments that encourage viewers to question the way they see and understand the world around them.
Höller's works have been shown internationally over the past two decades, with major installations and solo exhibitions such as Test Site at Tate Modern, London (2006) and SUNDAY at Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2019). Most recently, Höller's works were on display in the summer exhibition (2024) at the Fondation Beyeler. In 2022, he opened the Brutalisten restaurant in Stockholm, which serves dishes made with minimal ingredients.
Artist Talks is a programme organised by the Fondation Beyeler and UBS in which internationally renowned contemporary artists speak about their work. The talks have an open, dynamic format and range from traditional artist talks to moderated conversations between artists and prominent figures from the art world. The Artist Talks are held at the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen/Basel and at other art institutions in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA.
