If you are interested in the Fondation Beyeler and its various exhibitions and events, we would be happy to keep you informed via newsletters and social media.
At the beginning of the year, the Fondation Beyeler will present a major solo exhibition dedicated to the artist Frida Kahlo (1907–1954), focusing entirely on her artistic work. Featuring around 50 paintings, the exhibition brings together approximately one third of her entire painted oeuvre. In addition, 15 characteristic drawings will be on display. As the first monographic exhibition of Frida Kahlo in Switzerland, it offers a comprehensive overview of her work and a unique opportunity to see many of her key masterpieces rarely shown in Europe in the original.
The exhibition traces Frida Kahlo’s artistic development from the 1920s through to the 1950s. At its heart are her captivating and iconic self-portraits. Alongside these, visitors will encounter her richly layered still lifes and striking portraits of family members and friends. In Kahlo’s powerful and expressive works, life and art, tradition and innovation, as well as reality, dreams and fantasy merge into a highly distinctive visual language.
