In the summer of 1982, Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988) painted a group of large-format works for one of his first solo shows, supposed to go on view at a gallery in Modena, Italy. However, the project was cancelled before the show’s opening and the paintings were never shown together. More than forty years later, the Fondation Beyeler for the first time brings together these masterpieces, now held in collections in the United States, Asia and Switzerland.
