About exhibitions, artists and collection works

The Fondation Beyeler's publications build on a rich heritage. Although Ernst Beyeler gave up his antiquarian books business in favor of art in 1952, his love for fine books remained. From the start, it was imperative that his gallery release a high-quality catalog for every exhibition. With high quality color illustrations of the works and sophisticated layouts printed on good paper, he set new standards in the art world. Today's publications continue this tradition.

A varied program for a wide audience

Large-format illustrations supplemented with essays on art-historical contexts, careful design and high-quality printing distinguish the Fondation Beyeler's exhibition catalogs. It is our concern that the catalogs and texts be interesting and accessible to a wide audience - a goal that Ernst Beyeler already strove to achieve. The art mediation publications are also dedicated to this idea.
In addition to exhibition catalogues, the publication program features monographs on individual artists, documentaries, a museum guide for adults and children, and the publication “What is Art? 27 Questions and 27 Answers”. The latter is an entertaining introduction to art intended specifically for young people. The booklet series ANSICHTEN provides art lovers and teachers with an in-depth discussion of individual works at the Fondation Beyeler.
