Matisse – Invitation to the Voyage
Friday, 17 January 2025, 6 p.m.–2 a.m.
Take yourself on an artistic, creative and culinary voyage with a night full of colours, light and imagination, all inspired by Henri Matisse
At the Fondation Beyeler, visitors can immerse themselves in the fascinating world of Henri Matisse with the current exhibition "Matisse – Invitation to the Voyage" and embark on an unforgettable journey during the Museums Night with the "Spotlight Tours", which illuminate the highlights of the exhibition in different languages and in a fresh and entertaining way.
The "Atelier Matisse" offers the perfect opportunity to get hands-on in a relaxed atmosphere and print fabric bags with Matisse-inspired patterns, or try out light painting and create a large floral mural together.
In collaboration with Offcut Basel, the "Art Lab" presents an exciting audio format on the history of materials. This night will take you on valuable journeys of the mind, inspiring explorations and, last but not least, a culinary excursion to the different countries that Matisse discovered as a source of inspiration during his many voyages: The "Beyeler Restaurant im Park" will be offering delicacies from near and far for appetites both large and small during the Museums Night.
Night owls can look forward to another artistic highlight in the museum park, where the ‘Boreal Dreams’ installation by Jakob Kudsk Steensen provides a fascinating preview of the upcoming "Northern Lights" exhibition, which will be presented at the Fondation Beyeler from 26 January 2025.
The park will also feature the popular Nordic Glögg hot drink and a laser show with atmospheric polar lights to set the mood for the fascinating visual world of the upcoming exhibition.
Museums Night is an event organised by Museen Basel and the Basel-Stadt Culture department. On 17 January 2025, 40 museums and cultural institutions will be offering a wide-ranging programme of events from 6 pm to 2 am: www.museumsnacht.ch
