Wednesday matinée - ‘Vija Celmins’ - in german
The Wednesday Matinee provides deeper insights into the work of Vija Celmins (*1938, Riga, Latvia) from the 1960s to the present day. The US-American artist’s paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures display a visual language that is both subtle and powerful. Following early depictions of everyday objects and an engagement with images of war and disasters, Celmins devoted herself to boundless motifs such as the surface textures of deserts and oceans or night sky galaxies. Her works are produced over many years and unfold their fascinating beauty over the course of slow and precise contemplation.
