eikones X Friday Beyeler

Escapism refers to the escape from reality through illusions or pleasures. The colourful works of Henri Matisse and his dreamy motifs also serve as an impetus for many to think about an imaginary world of happiness and sensual pleasure. Critical voices accused the artist himself of escaping into a world of bourgeois luxury in the face of human and international political crises. In a tour of the exhibition, researchers from eikones. Center for the Theory and History of the Image at the University of Basel will offer new perspectives on Matisse’s work and, together with visitors, explore the concept of escapism on various levels. Meeting point: foyer in the museum. The event will be held in German. Advance booking is not required for this event.

Enjoy a relaxed evening out at the museum after work: Friday Beyeler is the perfect way to kick off the weekend. The museum is open until 9 pm and the restaurant until 10 pm. More information can be found at fondationbeyeler.ch
