In order to keep bringing art to you during the museum’s temporary closure in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the Fondation Beyeler has further expanded its online activities. Apart from our existing programmes such as the Artist Talks or our thematic media series on social media, we have developed new and specific formats for you and your family.
Delve deeper into our exhibitions’ themes and details. Our curators Raphael Bouvier and Ulf Küster take you on brief tours of the museum.

We bring art mediation straight to your home. On our website “Beyeler Create”, we have put together numerous digital activities, workshops and templates related to our Hopper exhibition. Next to our children’s booklet «Hopper Interaktiv» and an online quiz, you will also find various tutorials and challenges to exert your own creativity – for the young and the less young, for home schooling, or when boredom bites.

"Ein Museumsbesuch der anderen Art"
With Mike Müller und Patrick Frey
Empty museums exert a deep fascination. We invited Swiss actors, authors and comedians Mike Müller and Patrick Frey to perform alone in the museum, develop ideas, and apply their wit and humour to the artworks - of course with the necessary distance. The ten part series is released each Monday and Friday on our website and on facebook. [in German]
About the exhibition
At the express request of our community, every week we will discuss a work of our «Edward Hopper» exhibition. Curator Ulf Küster will also present a podcast with readings from his book «Hopper A-Z». Enough to enable you to travel across Hopper’s landscapes even from afar!
"Silent Vision - Images of Calm and Quiet"
About the Exhibition
Our current collection display «Silent Vision – Images of Calm and Quiet» focuses on modern and contemporary artworks. Each room is dedicated to a specific aspect of calm and quiet. Our weekly video series will present the different themes and highlight specific works.
Beyeler "Still Life"
In many places, the world appears to have come to a momentary standstill. During their temporary closure, the museum and its park have become «sleeping beauties». Yet could their slumber be deceptive? We invite you to join us in looking carefully and heeding nature’s small sensations. With our «Beyeler Slowdown», we turn our gaze onto iconic elements of the Fondation Beyeler’s grounds, such as the water lily pond or the large Calder sculpture, capturing them at a time of stillness. Pause for a moment of contemplation and follow the play of the wind setting Calder’s sculpture in motion or the dance of Philippe Parreno’s water lilies.
Together with the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst (HGK), the art education department is launching a small challenge starting on April 13, inviting users on Instagram to reenact or recreate Hopper scenes. Hopper scenes can be seen at home or with a view out of your own window. We share the best ideas on our Instagram account under #FollowHoppersView.
Our online shop remains open and we look forward to your orders. Puzzles, colouring books, art prints for your living room or a rich selection of books for your reading corner – we bring Edward Hopper straight into your home. And much much more.

Performance and Readings
The supporting program organized by the Fondation Beyeler to accompany the exhibitions does more than create connections to literature, music, and architecture. Renowned performers and contemporary dance ensembles are also frequently invited as a part of the program. They take up the artistic idiom of the exhibited works and interpret it as movement in space, creating impressive and intimate live experiences in the museum.
Artist Talks is a program organized by the Fondation Beyeler and UBS in which internationally renowned contemporary artists speak about their work. The talks have an open, dynamic format and range from traditional artist’s talks to moderated conversations between artists and prominent figures from the art world. The Artist Talks are held at the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen/Basel and at other art institutions in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA.
