FRIDAY, MAY 20, 2022, 6 P.M.–2 A.M.

This year, our Museum Night will be taking place earlier than usual, on Friday, May 20, instead of in midsummer. Visitors to the Fondation Beyeler will have a final opportunity to see the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition, with a program of special events, and to view our collection presentation "Passages – Landscape, Figure and Abstraction". The day also features, as a particular highlight, a series of concerts held in complete darkness, enabling listeners to immerse themselves in the experimental electronic sounds of Christina Vantzou, Flora Yin Wong, and Nora Sigue.

The many offerings include short guided tours exploring the work of Georgia O’Keeffe, and tours of the sculptures in the museum grounds. The Museum Night provides opportunities to discover lesser-known and hidden areas of the Fondation Beyeler, as well as viewing the exhibitions. There are also a number of creative workshops for "night visitors" to experiment for themselves with artistic techniques.

The Museum Night is organized by the Basel museums and the Basel-Stadt department of culture. A total of 37 museums and cultural institutions will be presenting an extensive and varied program, starting at 6 p.m. on May 20, and continuing until 2 a.m. the following morning.

To avoid long queues on the day, visitors are advised to buy tickets in advance. Wristbands for admission are available now at the Fondation Beyeler cash desk.

Georgia O’Keeffe and Alexander Calder shared a close friendship. Her paintings and his mobiles oftentimes found their starting point in experiences of nature. Using materials found in nature, we will explore and play with questions of balance and create our own small mobiles.

Hildy and Ernst Beyeler loved art, but they were also passionate about bees. Together, we will build small bee houses to be placed in the garden or on the balcony.

Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s richly coloured works, this workshop invites you to experiment with watercolours to a backdrop of nature sounds.

As a highlight in addition to the exhibitions, concerts in complete darkness invite you to immerse yourself in an electronic soundscape and listen to the experimental and electronic sounds of Christina Vantzou, Flora Yin Wong and Nora Sigue.

The concerts take place from 7 p.m. on the hour in the basement of the museum. To allow the concerts to run smoothly, please do not enter or leave the hall during the performance. Screens and mobile phones cannot be used during the concerts, so that you can instead engage in a collective sensory experience. Registration on site.
