Experience art without barriers
The entire museum is accessible to wheelchair users, as are the paths of the beautiful Berower Park. The museum has a 70-meter-long access ramp with a grade of 6.25%. The interior is on one level without thresholds or obstacles. We invite you to take advantage of our regular guided tours and workshops.
The rooms of the museum have parquet floors, the access ramp to the museum is made of stone slabs, and the courtyard around the Villa Berower is paved with cobblestones. The paths in the park are made of fine sand and gravel but are suitable for wheelchair use.
The garden terrace of the Restaurant is wheelchair accessible. The interior of the restaurant can be accessed only with assistance. There is a threshold at the entrance; door width is 70 cm, but a second door panel can be opened. The rest rooms are also partly accessible to wheelchairs: door width is 60 cm, seat height is 41 cm.
We recommend using public transportation: low-floor Tram 10 from the SBB train station to the “Theater” stop (BLT Baselland Transport AG, Tel. +41 61 406 11 11), change to Tram 6 and exit at the “Fondation Beyeler” stop (Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe, Tel. +41 61 685 12 12). Both lines operate with low-floor trams most of the time.
You can also come with your own car or with the transport for disabled persons from Basel (Tel. +41 61 666 66 66, advance booking required). There is a marked parking lot for people with disabilities on Baselstrasse, at the entrance of the “Zentrum” garage.
Restrooms and lower level
Restrooms for visitors with disabilities are in the foyer and are accessible for wheelchair users: door width is 95 cm, seat height is 47 cm, handles and hinged handles are available. The washbasin can be used with a wheelchair and the mirror is hung low. Exhibitions on the lower level can be reached by elevator: door width is 85 cm, elevator is 140 cm.
Wheelchairs on site for persons with impaired mobility
The museum also has two wheelchairs for people with impaired mobility that may be borrowed on site (reservation at Tel. +41 61 645 97 11). Folding chairs are available at the entrance should you need to sit occasionally during your visit to the exhibition.
