August 31 - October 29, 2019
The paintings from the celebrated collection of Rudolf Staechelin (1881–1946) are returning to Basel, after a four-year interval in which the pictures were shown (with works from the Im Obersteg Collection) in widely acclaimed exhibitions at the Museo Nacional Reina Sofia in Madrid and the Phillips Collection in Washington. Now, from the end of August 2019, nineteen outstanding examples of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Classic Modernism are to be seen at the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen. The paintings, by Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Ferdinand Hodler, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Camille Pissarro, and Auguste Renoir, are currently displayed together in a dedicated presentation. Subsequently, individual pictures will be included in the periodically rehung exhibition of the Fondation Beyeler’s permanent collection. Thus the works from the
Rudolf Staechelin Collection will be publicly accessible again in Basel, where a new chapter begins in the collection’s eventful history.
May 26 – October 6, 2019
The Fondation Beyeler will devote its summer exhibition 2019 to contemporary painter Rudolf Stingel (born in 1956 in Merano, Italy, he lives and works in New York and Merano). Like few other artists, he probes and interrogates the status quo of painting.
JUNE 8 – 30, JULY 18 – SEPTEMBER 29, 2019
Louise Bourgeois is considered one of the most significant and influential artistic personalities. Over a period of nearly seven decades—from the 1940s until her death in 2010—she created an exceptional body of work, encompassing sculptures, objects and installations, as well as the drawings and writings that form a common thread running through her oeuvre. Bourgeois became known in particular for her monumental sculptures of spiders, with bronze legs standing up to nine meters high. She is represented by two drawings and three sculptures in the collection of the Fondation Beyeler, which devoted a comprehensive exhibition to her work in 2011.

October 6, 2019 – January 26, 2020
For a long time, art did not concern itself much with the topic of space. However, since new forms of expression such as performance, installation and film found their way into the realm of art in the 1960s, space has become a vital theme and experience in modern and contemporary artistic output.
The Fondation Beyeler's main goal is to bring art and spectator together. Through our guided tours and workshops, we do not only share knowledge about artists, works and epochs, we create above all a space in which to deepen observations and exchange different views, perceptions, thoughts and feelings. Our goal is to let stories and therefore connections develop between the artwork and the viewer and it's especially important to the Fondation Beyeler that children and young people also be able to find their very own stories and connections.
This is the perfect place for art lovers, visitors and gift seekers. Since 1997 the Fondation Beyeler Shop offers a selection of exhibition catalogs, posters, special editions and contemporary books about art, architecture and design, as well as watches, accessories and other design articles. These are high-quality, limited editions and art reproductions (often signed by the artist), lithographs, engravings, silk-screen prints of selected works as well as exclusive objects and artists books.
Museum in a new park

During the past 20 years, the Fondation Beyeler has become the most popular art museum in Switzerland. Through its program, it makes a significant contribution to the quality of life and attractiveness of the Basel region as well as to the level of cultural awareness there. Visitors come from near and far to see the impressive exhibitions, attend the wide range of events and enjoy the beautiful park. In order to be able to continue to satisfy the needs of art and the public in the future, the Fondation Beyeler is planning an expansion.
