The Fondation Beyeler attaches great importance to the publication of attractively designed, informative catalogues and other material on the museum’s permanent collection and its temporary exhibitions. Here you will find some suggestions for reading your way into the Beyeler Collection.
Accompanying each exhibition, the Fondation Beyeler publishes a comprehensive catalogue with numerous reproductions and texts about the exhibition.
The revised catalogue of the Beyeler Collection was published in 2007, our tenth anniversary year. It contains reproductions of 230 paintings, sculptures and works on paper, and includes essays by Jorge Semprun, Nicholas Serota and Reinhold Hohl, as well as statements about individual works by Ernst Beyeler and curators of the Fondation Beyeler.
Our publication series ANSICHTEN (‘Views’; texts in German only) is
intended for art lovers and art educators who wish to gain a deeper
understanding of works on display in the Fondation Beyeler. Each slim A4
booklet (24 pages, with numerous colour reproductions) introduces the
reader to outstanding paintings and sculptures in the Fondation Beyeler,
providing detailed background information that also sets the works in a
broader context.
By acquainting readers and visitors with different
views and perspectives in this form, the Fondation Beyeler aims to
provide new insights and explore ways of experiencing art.
Each issue
of the ANSICHTEN series is structured along the same lines.
ANSICHTEN
offers:
- detailed descriptions of individual works
- background information on individual works (e.g. artistic techniques employed, genre conventions, pictorial sources or influences)
- details on the history of the work’s development and its reception
- suggestions as to how to conduct educational experiments, observations and games in the museum context
- ideas for practical applications in a studio, classroom or other situation
