With his band Soft Cell, the British singer and songwriter Marc Almond was an icon of the 1980s, selling over 30 million records worldwide. Accompanied by Martin Watkins (piano) and Neal Whitmore (guitar), Marc Almond took the audience at the Fondation Beyeler on a musical journey through the work of the chansonnier Jacques Brel, who was an admirer of Paul Gauguin.
"Musicians are special. Sounds, harmonies. Nothing else. They live in a world all their own. Painting, too, should be in a class by itself. Music’s sister, it lives on forms and colors." Paul Gauguin, 1893
